  • The AMN Healthcare Board of Directors elects Douglas D. Wheat to serve as Chairman of the Board.

  • AMN Healthcare corporate running team raises more than $25,000 to support the San Diego chapter of Girls on the Run.

  • AMN Healthcare launches a healthcare staffing industry first with its offering of Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO), a service designed to help organizations improve on time to hire, candidate pool quality, and cost reduction.

  • AMN Healthcare acquires Rx Pro Health, an allied staffing firm specializing in temporary and permanent placement pharmacists, along with pharmacy portal Pharmacy Choice.

  • Professional networking site NurseConnect.com is launched, offering nurses all around the world a professional online community where they can connect, share experiences and learn about facilities, schools and open positions.

  • AnesthesiaZone.com is launched, providing a unique online resource for anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

  • AMN Healthcare employees raise nearly $12,000 for multiple sclerosis research by participating in Walk MS in San Diego.

  • AMN Healthcare receives the award for Outstanding Corporate Growth from the San Diego Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth.
  • The Joint Commission's Health Care Staffing Services division certifies AMN Healthcare and its travel staffing divisions American Mobile Healthcare, Medical Express, Nurses Rx, Preferred Healthcare Staffing, O'Grady-Peyton International, and NurseChoice.

  • Susan Salka is named Chief Executive Officer of AMN Healthcare.

  • AMN Healthcare becomes the first multi-site corporate healthcare staffing company to receive certification from The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
  • In response to the urgent need for nurses, AMN Healthcare launches its newest company and service offering, NurseChoice.

  • Furthering its commitment to the health of its community, AMN Healthcare partners with the American Heart Association to support its annual Heart Walk.

  • AMN Healthcare Cares, the company’s community service program, receives the 2005 National Public Service Award from the American Staffing Association.
  • AMN Healthcare acquires Texas-based MHA Group (now Merritt Hawkins), the nation's leader in temporary and permanent physician staffing services; making AMN Healthcare the nation's largest comprehensive healthcare staffing solution provider.

  • AMN Healthcare launches its first scholarship program at San Diego State University's School of Nursing.

  • AMN Healthcare is awarded the 2004 Workplace Excellence Award by the San Diego Society for Human Resources. By the end of 2004, AMN Healthcare has surpassed 6,000 hospital and healthcare facility clients.

  • AMN Healthcare launches TheraTech Staffing, a brand dedicated to traveling allied healthcare professionals, including radiation technicians, occupational therapists and physical therapists.

  • Susan Salka is named President of AMN Healthcare, Inc.
October
  • The California Legislature Assembly proclaims the 8th of October "AMN Healthcare Day". By the end of 2003, AMN Healthcare has more than 4,300 hospital and healthcare facility clients.

  • AMN Healthcare acquires RN.com, an ANCC-accredited provider of continuing education for registered nurses.
October
  • AMN Healthcare is awarded the 2002 Staffing Industry Communications Award by the American Staffing Association in acknowledgement of “exceptional achievement” regarding work with the Thousand Smiles Foundation.

  • Recognizing the demand for quality nurses from foreign countries, AMN Healthcare acquires O'Grady Peyton International, the leading international travel nurse staffing company.
  • AMN Healthcare launches NursingJobs.com, an online job network for healthcare professionals.

  • In the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, AMN Healthcare team members raise more than $32,000 for American Red Cross relief efforts.
November
  • AMN Healthcare becomes a publicly traded company, appearing for the first time on the New York Stock Exchange.
December
  • AMN Healthcare launches TravelNursing.com, a website recognized as the authority in travel nursing and providing feature articles and job information on the travel healthcare profession.

  • AMN Healthcare acquires Nurses Rx, a national travel nurse staffing company based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • AMN Healthcare launches its first portal site, NurseZone.com, a comprehensive website providing news, resources, career information, and lifestyle articles for nurses, students and new graduates.

  • American Mobile Healthcare acquires Medical Express, a national travel nurse staffing company based in Denver
December
  • Recognizing the opportunity to better serve clients through a single staffing provider while still maintaining separate recruitment brands, AMN Healthcare is launched.

 

1996

October
  • American Mobile Healthcare enters cyberspace, launching its first websites. In the October 1996 company newsletter, Susan Salka writes: "Someday in the future, it is conceivable that every American Mobile Healthcare employee will have an Internet e-mail address and can communicate with their travelers online. (Don't get too excited yet … we are a few project years away from this)".
November
  • A milestone is achieved as American Mobile Healthcare has 1,000 travelers on assignment.

 

1994

March
  • American Mobile Nurses and American Mobile Therapists merge to become American Mobile Healthcare.

 

1991

January
  • American Mobile Nurses launches American Mobile Therapists.
February
  • American Mobile Nurses establishes its first executive client accounts with Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, the UC San Diego Medical Center, and New York University Medical Center.

 

1990

June
  • Susan Salka joins the company as its first Chief Financial Officer.

 

1987

July
  • American Mobile Nurses makes the move from Las Vegas, Nevada to its new home in San Diego, California.

 

1985

March
  • American Mobile Nurses, Inc., is founded.
  • American Mobile Nurses places its first traveler, Doris Ward, through Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.
