Oklahoma Nursing License

Did you know that, O.K., also stands for, “opportunity knocks,” in Oklahoma? Especially for various nurses looking for travel nursing jobs... In fact, travel nurses in Oklahoma can enhance their careers with dozens of assignment choices while enjoying the state’s unique history, culture, and natural beauty.

Once you have an Oklahoma nursing license, you’ll discover why the Sooners rushed to claim this land, from the rich farmlands and mountains to the deserts, and today’s awe-inspiring state and national parks. You can enjoy year-round recreation, visit botanical gardens and museums, make the most of the nightlife in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, or take your time to explore the historic—and often quirky—Route 66.

The rivalries between Oklahoma (OU) and Oklahoma State (OSU) sports teams are legendary, but town after town will welcome you, no matter which side you claim.

Whether you already hold a multistate nursing license or need to obtain your Oklahoma RN license by endorsement, American Mobile is here to help you find the ideal travel nursing jobs in Oklahoma.

How to Apply for an Oklahoma Nursing License

If you are a registered nurse seeking travel assignments in Oklahoma—but you do not have an NLC multistate license—you can apply for licensure by an endorsement through the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN). First-time licensees would need licensure by examination.

Applying for Oklahoma nurse licensure by endorsement requires:

  • An active nursing license in another state or U.S. territory
  • A completed application and paid licensing fees – $85 for nurses educated in the U.S., or $95 with a temporary license
  • Verification of citizenship status
  • Graduation from a nursing program approved by the OBN
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX
  • Verification from the original state of nurse licensure
  • Evidence of continuing qualifications for practice; see OBN site for details
  • Completed fingerprint cards to conduct a criminal background check
  • A 2”x2” photograph

Once all documentation is received, your state license should be granted by the OBN within about 4 weeks. That’s right, only 4 weeks!

Oklahoma is an NLC State!

Oklahoma has been a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) since January 2018, when the latest version of the compact was implemented. Also known as the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), this agreement allows RNs or LPNs to have one multistate nursing license that is valid for practicing in any of the 39 compact member states.

If you already have an NLC multistate license from your primary state of residence, you are well on your way to working travel nursing jobs in Oklahoma; you won’t need to get any additional licensing.

Need to Renew Your License?

Oklahoma nursing licenses must be renewed every two years, at the end of the nurse’s birth month. RNs and LPNs with an active license can apply for their Oklahoma Board of Nursing license renewal on the Board’s website and pay the renewal fee of $75.

Renewal applicants must meet at least one of five continuing qualifications for practice: 540+ work hours; 24+ contact hours of CE; certification in a nursing specialty; completion of a refresher course; or completion of 6+ semester hours of nursing coursework.

You can find more details and access a copy of your Oklahoma nursing license verification through the Board’s licensing portal.
